Help Writing a Resume - Create the Perfect Resume and Score Big With Employers
Help Writing a Resume - Create the Perfect Resume and Score Big With Employers'Help Writing a Resume' is a term used by job seekers on the Internet who want to know how to write a resume effectively. Although the idea of a resume has changed over the years, it is still regarded as a document that should tell a prospective employer all about you and your employment history. And, although there are many copy-writers who are skilled in writing resumes, it would be worthwhile to learn how to write one in the first place. A lot of job seekers are now turning to online services, but this does not mean that job hunters are in a rush to complete their projects.Resumes, especially those of a more recent vintage, should be considered first for approval by companies. Companies need to know that they have hired a certain candidate and this means hiring someone with suitable skills and experience in a particular area. In the past, the content of a resume was usually extremely detailed, while comp anies could get an idea about the type of job applicant from his or her previous positions. However, the need for a resume has evolved considerably, to the point where a company can only assess the resume by analyzing its contents. A resume, in fact, will typically include an individual's contact details, phone numbers, email addresses, business and educational information, and even the date of birth and other personal data. So, there's no room for making up a resume in the beginning stages of the hiring process.Because it is not feasible to have a resume ready, a person can try to modify it as much as possible to make it sound more professional. For instance, rather than listing his work history in chronological order, try listing them chronologically, starting with when he or she started working, the year of the company, the title of the position, his or her position, the length of time he or she was employed, and so on.If he or she is familiar with the industry, the person who wan ts to return to the workforce should try to write about the right topics. Topics such as the past achievements, the goals that the company and the candidate have set, the qualifications the candidate has acquired and the criteria the candidate meets should all be included in a resume that is appropriate for the company to be interested in the person. When looking for a resume writer, applicants should also consider the writer's ability to match resumes to the hiring company's requirements. Also, prospective employers will often use the resume to get to know the candidate and his or her accomplishments and skills.Job seekers should therefore take their time before they actually hire someone, as hiring can be a big decision. Any decision made by a person with the right combination of patience and time should help him or her to build a wonderful career in a company that understands the importance of a resume.

Fast-Rising CEOs Have These 4 Things in Common
Fast-Rising CEOs Have These 4 Things in Common What makes a great CEO? Charisma? Drive? The perfect blend of ivy league degrees, boatloads of experience, and a blemish-free resume? Hardly. According to The CEO Next Door, a new book by leadership consultants Elena Botelho and Kim Powell, the people at the top of the food chain arenât the prodigies we think they are. Statistically, a CEO is more likely to drop out or skip college altogether than they are to go to an ivy league school, they found. And the typical CEO definitely wasnât âborn to leadâ â" only about 30% of top executives had their eye on the c-suite at the start of their career. And it makes sense. Some of the most powerful CEOs in history sprang from humble beginnings. Henry Ford grew up on a farm. Dave Thomas, the late CEO of Wendyâs, left high school to bus tables at a local restaurant. Tech industry CEOs like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg all dropped out of college. Spanx CEO Sara Blakely spent $5,000 of her own money into starting up her hosiery line with no experience in fashion sales. Glossierâs Emily Weiss turned a blog into a multi-million dollar cosmetic company and ecommerce giant. The average CEO, it turns out, is a lot like the rest of us. âWe donât think of CEOs as ânormal people,ââ Botelho says. âBut a lot of the aspects of becoming a CEO are much more accessible to everyone.â Over the course of 10 years, Botelho and Powell surveyed more than 17,000 chief executives, and took an in-depth look at 2,600 of their careers â" a study they deemed the âCEO Genome Project.â They found that those who make it to the corner office donât often have a sparkling record, with only 7% attending an ivy league school. Even more interesting: 45% of them had at least one major career blowup at some point along the way â" a giant, nearly career-ending mistake âlike destroying half a billion dollars in shareholder value,â Botelho says. The difference between the types of people who become CEO and everybody else, the study shows, is their willingness to make those mistakes in the first place. âThey make decisions faster, and with more conviction,â Botelho says. âThey put a stake in the ground and keep moving. The differentiation between who succeeds and who fails is not whether or not they make mistakes â" itâs whether they use them for learning, or become so ashamed that they canât move forward,â Botelho says. âItâs more about taking the right risks, as opposed to playing it safe.â This CEO secret sauce is even more apparent in a subset of the studyâs participants they call âCEO sprinters,â or fast-rising executives who reached the executive role in less than the average 24 years after their first job. Like the larger pool of business leaders, âsprintersâ arenât the white-collar caricatures we assume they are. Typically theyâre no more extroverted, or more motivated, than the average Joe. The common denominator, rather, is a willingness to step into the unknown, without knowing exactly where it will lead. Botelho and Powell says this manifests in three different ways â" what the researchers call âcareer catapults.â More than a third of the so-called âsprintersâ made a âbig leapâ at some point in their career, jumping into an opportunity without knowing if they were actually qualified for it â" taking on a role that quadrupled their leadership authority, say, or spearheading a large project they have no background knowledge in. Likewise, more than 30% of fast-rising CEOs successfully led teams through some sort of downturn, like a disastrous product launch, or an underperforming unit. And 60% of these executives made a strategic decision to âgo small,â by taking a lateral or lower rank, moving to a smaller company, or starting their own business in order to get more responsibility or to build something from the ground up. A whopping 97% of the fast-rising CEOs who participated in the âCEO Genome Projectâ had at least one of these experiences, and nearly 50% had at least two. This is an important distinction, because it proves that leadership isnât written in the stars. And the path to the c-suite might be a easier than we think. âThe whole notion of being âdestinedâ to become a leader is false,â Botelho says. âThere is no perfectly-carved plan, but there are ways to make better choices.â

Boost Your Resume With A Great Cover Letter - Work It Daily
Boost Your Resume With A Great Cover Letter - Work It Daily How do you write a great cover letter? Picture this: Someone hands you a resume without saying anything, and a few seconds later, someone else hands you a resume, saying, âThis person seems like just what weâre looking for and he is really interested in the job!â Which resume do you think you will favor? Naturally, you will favor the one with the great introduction. This is part of what a great cover letter does for you in your job search. Related: 3 Tips For Writing A Successful Cover Letter The entire goal of a cover letter is to get the employer to read your resume. Knowing that, it only makes sense to set your goal just a little higher to make them not only read your resume, but be excited to read it. A good cover letter will set a positive bias for you, boosting both your resume and your chances of getting the interview. How do you write a great cover letter? Target Your Letter Itâs important that your cover letter be written for this hiring manager, at this company, for this job. Much more than just addressing it to the right person (although thatâs a must); a good cover letter is written as if you were speaking to them. Inject some of your personality into your letter, but always maintain your professionalism. Sell Yourself For The Job The job search is a sales process (whether your job is actually in sales or not) and your cover letter is the first step in the sale. The psychological process of choosing someone to hire is remarkably similar to that of choosing a product to buy. When you choose a product, you want one that does something for youâ"it solves a problem, it promises a better outcome, or it delivers a result you need. Your cover letter should be focused on what benefits you could bring to them and their company. Pick a couple of significant, job-relevant points from your resume to highlight, and include them in your letter. Quantify Your Accomplishments Of all the things I could tell you to write in your cover letter, one of the most important is âquantify your accomplishments.â To quantify means to describe in terms of numbers, dollars, or percentages. Whatever your accomplishment was, describing it with numbers, dollars, or percentages will grab their attention and make you stand out. A well-written cover letter is second only to a respected friend handing them your resume with a personal recommendation. Take the time to write a great cover letter. It will be time well-spent, because it will pay off in an interested employer who calls you for an interview. Find out more about writing a job-winning cover letter (step-by-step instructions with examples) in my Free Report â" How to Write Attention-Getting Cover Letters. The 2 Most Annoying Interview Questions Boomers Get  And How to Answer Them
The 2 Most Annoying Interview Questions Boomers Get And How to Answer Them Baby Boomers are staying in the labor force and working later in life at rates not seen in generations for their age, according to Pew Research Center. By 2024, 25% of the American workforce will be made up of workers over the age of 55, a record high, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. But you dont have to do anything but skim through the news and catch up on the OK, Boomer meme to know that Baby Boomers despite their decades of skills and experience arent always getting the respect they deserve, in and out of the workplace.Boomers have a lot to offer, says Mark Silverman, CEO and founder of Amava, an online platform he says is focused on empowering this generation of tech-savvy workers nearing the end of their careers, or extending them and living in semi-retirement, to make successful transitions. It also connects their members including retirees and empty nesters with flexible or part-time jobs .Some of them are looking for full -time work and continuing their careers, but a lot of them are looking for flexible part-time work, said Silverman.Interviewing at 55 and older isnt easy, and Silverman has gotten feedback about the most difficult some would say ageist questions his members have gotten over and over again. Some of them, he says, tread on subtle age discrimination. He does have some ideas on how to answer these questions, however, so they dont derail your job interview.1. Why would someone with so much experience want this job? This is both my favorite and the most hated question. Its really hard to not think of this as an attack on age and experience itself. But I do think that its a question thats often asked by somebody that doesnt do a lot of interviewing. But the answer to the question is very hard in terms of just a direct answer, because clearly what theyre interpreting your application as somebody who hasnt been able to continue to leverage that experience to grow in their career and get to the next level. And so theres an inherent judgment on the question thats off-putting to a lot of people who are interviewing. What I tend to recommend, and Ive talked to a number of members that have dealt with this question, is to really focus on two different things. One is, dont really focus on the levels youve achieved in your career and dont focus on the need for lets say, validation based on some type of title or something. Focus on the skills you have and then give three or four reasons why youre making a change in direction. And these can be really basic reasons for making a change. It can simply be, look, Im looking for a place thats closer to me that has a shorter commute. Im looking for a place that has a culture that isnt really looking to work with them and can grow with them. And yes, absolutely, Im willing to take a step back in terms of title or even compensation because thats mora important to me at this stage of life, is finding a pla ce where Im really comfortable working where I can really contribute to the high level. When I asked our members, most of the interviewers dont pursue this question. So if you give a really solid and basic answer, thats a combination of Here are the skills that Id like to bring in, heres really the reasons why Im making this change, the one or two things. They to move on and not worry about it.If people get abwehr or they get offended by the question, it can really derail the interview. So I think preparing for this one in particular, its important.2. What is your upskilling strategy?Silverman cautions those on the receiving end of this question not to be too defensive and focus on ways theyd like to develop professionally instead. The question is really targeting Boomers because of their age, but more that its simply a question asking about areas for improvement, and an opportunity to show their continued curiosity and desire to grow as an employee and as a person. And so I always t hink that its good for people that are going into an interview at any age, to think about what are the areas of development that they would want to focus on if the employer made them available to them and they dont have to be areas of critical weakness associated with the particular job skills required.Obviously, the question can be problematic. But they could focus on areas of improvement, whether its new technical skills associated with different types of tools lets say, a new CRM system that might have been deployed or the ERP system thats been deployed if youre on the sales or marketing side. Or it could simply be areas around the leadership that you want to continue to focus on based on your experiences in the past. What weve found is the members that come up with one or two areas that they really want to focus on, in terms of continuing their education and continuing development of their skills. Its actually a straight question to answer from that perspective. Almost everybod y whos reentering the workforce or continuing in the workforce has areas that they would really love to take a step back and spend a few hours a week developing skills around or perfecting and polishing some of their skills.
